CALIFORNIA
DREAMIN'
2000
Aluminum, brass, copper;
Neon and argon gas in glass tubing.
96 x 72 x 8 in,
Commissioned
by Andy Fuzesi for the LA Auto Show for their catalog, press and other publicity
materials, California Dreamin' was created to represent southern California
with movie marquee, palm tree, surfboard and the Hollywood sign made into
the car's grill. A crackle plasma flat glass circle was incorporated into
the headlight. The sculpture was exhibited in the Los Angeles Convention Center
during the show and then installed in the management's corporate offices in
West Los Angeles.
When the great granddaughter of Henry Ford saw a
photo of it, she wanted the sculpture for her home outside of Detroit. So
Lakich created a version with a Ford logo as the grill replacing the Hollywood
lettering. (See it in the Residential Commissions section).
